Your Festival, Your Contribution, Your Impact

 We’re in the last few weeks before the 2015 Oregon Mennonite Festival for World Relief! Here are ways you can make an impact by contributing.

Quilts: Beautiful quilts and wallhangings are already creating a buzz for the festival on Facebook! Please deliver your quilts, comforters, and wall hangings as follows.
  • Portland area: Portland Mennonite Church (503-234-0559) by Monday, Sept. 21 (or deliver to Zion Mennonite on Sept. 22). Contact Alice Hill (503-771-2421). Or deliver to home of quilt coordinator Margery Barkman (503-266-7854, msbarkman@canby.com) that afternoon: 1441 S. Ivy, Unit 1304, Canby.
  • Woodburn area:  Zion Mennonite Church (503-651-2274), on or before Tuesday morning, Sept. 22, 10 a.m. to noon. Contact Gloria Gingerich, 503-651-2610, or Louise Gingrich, 503-651-2816. 
  • Salem area: Salem Mennonite Church (503-390-2715), Wednesday morning, Sept. 23, 9:30 a.m. to noon.  Contact Phyllis Lind (503-304-3860) or Karen Graber (503-623-3197). 
  • Sweet Home, Lebanon, Albany, and Corvallis area: Albany Mennonite Church (541-926-1443), Thursday morning, Sept. 24, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Contact Anita Lindberg (503-930-1455) or Tina Kauffman (541-926-5046). 

Auction and silent auction: Top sellers include vacation packages, handcrafted wooden items, tickets to cultural or sporting events, and new household items. Bring all auction items to the Santiam (not Willamette) Building at the Linn County Fairgrounds on Friday, Oct. 9. For the main auction, please contact Tim Steiner in advance to let us know of your donation (503-381-6436, oregonfestivalauction@gmail.com).

Children’s auction: Small items for kids ages 12 and under. Deliver to the Willamette Building on Friday (no Saturday deliveries, please). Contact Maria Steiner (503-348-0256, steinertm@comcast.net).

Country Store:  Best sellers are usually wearables and consumables (rather than decorating items) such as fresh garden produce, soap, jewelry, granola, noodles, dried fruits, dried flowers. (Please note the festival cannot sell home-canned foods.) Deliver to the booth in the Willamette Building on Friday for pricing. Contact Denise Diller, 541-704-0451, markdenised@hotmail.com.

Books: Deliver used books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, and other media to the booth in the Willamette Building on Friday for sorting. Donations of shopping bags are also greatly appreciated. Contact Dave Hockman-Wert, 541-752-0444, dhwert@yahoo.com.

Marta’s Haus: Donations including fabric, sewing notions, yarn, craft materials, quilt and craft books and magazines, even unfinished projects need to be delivered to Fairview Mennonite in Albany (541-928-1067) for pricing by the end of September. Contact Julie Miller, 541-754-7533.

Garden Shop: Deliver plants to the Santiam Building on Friday. Contact Ann Detweiler: 541-928-7038.

What to Bring to the Festival on October 10

  • Friends and family!
  • My Coins Count donations
  • Baked goods: Quick and yeast breads; dinner rolls and cinnamon rolls; pretzels, pies, and peppernuts; scones, brownies, homemade cereals – anything except refrigerated fillings. Cookies should be packaged in 1 or 2 dozen packages. Please label the items. Deliver to the booth in the Willamette Building.
  • School kits and school kit items: Deliver to the booth in the Willamette Building
  • An appetite (come early for the new baked French toast breakfast, and look for the fiesta chicken salad!)
  • Checkbook (or credit card) and cash
  • Reusable shopping bags for your purchases
  • Cooler for goodies to take home
  • A generous heart ■

Volunteers Needed

Throughout the year, hundreds of people work together to make a difference around the world. Many volunteer opportunities are still available! Especially needed are folks who are:

Good with chairs, books (set up), or brooms (clean up): Tasks ranging from setting up tables and chairs to organizing used books. Report to the Willamette Building at 9 a.m. or anytime thereafter on Friday. Book sorting starts around 10 a.m. Cleanup crew is also needed. Jobs include low-impact tasks like sweeping. Starts at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Contact Larry Passmore: 541-752-1561, passmorecl@yahoo.com.

Good with displays, presentations, and watching the clock (auction set up and implementation): On Friday extra hands are needed to hang up quilts then take them down and display them Saturday as the auction proceeds. Assistants also needed to run the main auction and silent auction on Saturday, starting at 8 a.m. Contact Tim Steiner, 503-381-6436, oregonfestivalauction@gmail.com.

Good for food and dishes:  Setup helpers in the foods area Friday beginning at 9 a.m. as well as cleanup helpers. Volunteers to wash dishes through the day, to serve soup and salad lunch, and be cashiers at the food booths. Contact Julia Todd, 541-258-3581, 0926jrt@gmail.com.

Good with cash and cheese: People to sell meats and cheese as well as serve as cashier at the Country Store. Contact Denise Diller, 541-704-0451, markdenised@hotmail.com. ■
