Homemade Pie (and Ice Cream) for a Better World

In 2013 George and Aimee Hunt made 40+ pies for the festival – but they were just getting warmed up. This year the pair baked 92 pies in one big day at Albany Mennonite Church. For weeks before, the Hunts, who attend Corvallis Mennonite Fellowship and work at Market of Choice (George is a baker), gleaned and froze fruit for the fillings. On Friday before the sale they made every crust from scratch.

Of course, there’s nothing better with pie than homemade ice cream – and we had 10 gallons of it at the festival this year, thanks to Orville Bontrager (left) and his tractor-powered ice cream maker.
